"Many urban lakes in central Arizona receive considerable runoff from roads and common areas and, because of the mild and arid climate, are prone to algae blooms during most of the year. High organic loading and resulting accumulations of sediment reduce lake volume, become a depository for nutrients, and adversely impact water quality and aesthetics.
